Do you know what taper you have?

On our kits we like to use the Tie rod end taper ends because they are stronger and can handle angles better. Not all crossover kit use this end and may have Drag link end taper. Both ends are considered "GM 1 Ton" but mismatching the two can lead to unsafe use. 

The way to find out what taper you have is to measure with a caliper. It can be difficult to read since it is a taper but themeasurement does not need to be precise, just close to these readings:

TRE taper .660ā€¯ small side .755ā€¯ large side
DLE taper .700ā€¯ small side .787ā€¯ large side

Here we are measuring from the large end of the taper:

This can be done on either pitman arms or steering arms to see what taper you have.

GM tie rod end taper is ~.660ā€¯ on the small side and ~.755ā€¯ on the large side.  This matches up with our U9016-NP tie rod ends as well as ES2010R/L and ES2234.


DLE taper is ~.700ā€¯ on the small side and ~.787ā€¯ on the large side.  It's the same 7 degree (or 1-1/2" per ft.) taper as the GM tie rod ends, but reamed deeper.  This matches up with ES2026R and ES2027L, the stock push/pull GM draglink ends.
